Patricia  Alvey

Patricia Alvey, associate provost for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness at SMU, retired at the end of the spring 2023 term. Alvey received a B.F.A. in drawing and painting from Murray State University and a Ph.D. in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. Alvey headed the Texas Creative Advertising Program at the University of Texas at Austin and was executive director of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Adcenter. She then joined SMU as distinguished chair and director of the Temerlin Advertising Institute (TAI) in Meadows School of the Arts, and subsequently served as SMU's associate provost for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness until her retirement. She has worked in the educational, fine art and advertising industries and has designed, coordinated and implemented hundreds of educational and fine art exhibitions, posters, catalogs, brochures, brand identity programs and promotional campaigns . Her work on behalf of the Texas Creative Advertising Program and the March of Dimes garnered silver and bronze Summit International Design Awards . Other accolades include awards from the American Academy of Advertising, the Nissan Advertising Competition, the Shell Corporation and the Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society. She retires as professor emeritus of advertising.
